Welcome Address
We are thrilled to invite you to Larynx 2024, an international quad conference organized by the Tamil Nadu Association of Phono Surgeons, the state branch of the Association of Phono Surgeons of India (APSI). This pivotal event will highlight both foundational and cutting-edge advancements in the medical, surgical, and rehabilitative aspects of laryngology. Our goal is to unite professionals to advance care for those suffering from voice, swallowing, and beathing (airway) disorders by presenting the latest clinical and scientific developments.
The conference will feature comprehensive plenary sessions covering a broad spectrum of laryngeal pathologies, with a special focus on Neuro-Laryngology, Airway Disorders, Laryngeal Cancers, and Dysphagia Management. Designed to be multidisciplinary, the sessions will cater to the interests of otolaryngologists and speech and language pathologists alike, with particular attention to the educational needs of those in training.
Larynx 2024 conference is committed to raising awareness and building confidence among generalists in managing various voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. Expect an engaging program filled with didactic lectures, panel discussions, instructional courses, and hands-on workshops led by esteemed experts. We eagerly look forward to welcoming you to Chennai to collaborate and contribute to shaping the future of laryngology as a specialty.

Our International Faculty

Dinesh Chartri
Dr. Dinesh Chhetri is a renowned Laryngologist and President of the American Laryngological Association, as well as a Professor of Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA. He directs the university's Swallowing Disorders and Head and Neck Cancer Survivorship programs and co-directs the Laryngology Program. Specializing in Transoral Robotic Surgery for oropharyngeal cancers, his clinical focus includes treating airway stenosis, dysphagia, and laryngeal reinnervation. Dr. Chhetri's research, funded by the NIH, advances our understanding of laryngeal neuromuscular control and voice disorders.

Cesare Piazza
Professor Cesare Piazza is a distinguished otorhinolaryngologist and past President of the European Laryngological Society (2021-2023). He served as Chief of Otorhinolaryngology, Maxillofacial and Thyroid Surgery at the National Cancer Institute of Milan from 2017 to 2020 and is currently the Full Professor and Chief of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Brescia, Italy. His extensive clinical and research interests focus on head and neck oncology, airway management, and microvascular reconstructive surgery. An active member of the European Laryngological Society since 2000 and part of its Scientific Council since 2010, Professor Piazza has contributed over 180 peer-reviewed papers and 78 book chapters and delivered more than 850 lectures globally. He has performed over 6000 surgical procedures in the head and neck area, including more than 1200 free flaps.

Kaalan E Johnson
Dr. Johnson serves as the Surgical Director of the Aerodigestive and Voice Programs at Seattle Children's Hospital and is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He trained in Southern California and Virginia and completed his pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Since joining Seattle Children’s Hospital in 2013, he has specialized in complex airway, breathing, and swallowing disorders. His clinical interests include airway reconstruction, voice disorders, and surgery for sleep apnea, sinus, and ear conditions. Dr. Johnson is also active in medical simulation, leading courses and collaborating on projects in 3D printing and virtual surgical planning with the WWAMI Institute for Simulation in Healthcare.

Carsten Palme
Dr. Palme is the Clinical Professor and Joint Head of Discipline ENT at Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney, and Director of Head & Neck Surgery at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer Centre. Additionally, he is a senior team member at Westmead Hospital's head and neck cancer center and Director of Head and Neck Cancer Australia- formerly Beyond Five, which is a patient focus website. Dr. Palme specializes in advanced surgical techniques for treating complex head and neck conditions, including thyroid and salivary gland diseases. He was trained by notable experts, Professors Patrick Gullane and Wolfgang Steiner, and has been recognized with the Coman Kennedy Laser Scholarship in 2011 and a Certificate of Outstanding Services from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012. Dr. Palme also leads efforts to enhance cancer care in regional and rural NSW through the Regional Access Program.

Sohit Kanotra
Dr. Sohit Paul Kanotra is a Pediatric Otolaryngologist and Airway Surgeon, dual board-certified in Otolaryngology and Complex Pediatric Otolaryngology. He directs UCLA’s Complex Pediatric Airway, Swallowing and Airway Reconstructive program, one of the few global centers specializing in complex pediatric airway and swallowing disorders. As a Clinical Associate Professor at UCLA, Dr. Kanotra has developed aerodigestive programs at both the University of Iowa and Louisiana State University, focusing on pediatric thyroid disorders, minimally invasive surgeries, and robotic airway procedures. He is also active in research, particularly in tissue engineering and 3D bioprinting for airway reconstruction. Dr. Kanotra's commitment extends to international humanitarian efforts and community educational initiatives for children with tracheostomy.

Nagarajan Muthialu
Mr. Nagarajan Muthialu is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon specializing in pediatric thoracic, tracheal surgery, and heart and lung transplant programs. After completing his surgical and cardiothoracic training in India, he pursued specialist training in the UK. Currently, he serves as the Clinical Lead for pediatric thoracic surgery, lung transplantation, and the surgical Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), where he also leads all airway surgeries for children. Mr. Muthialu's expertise has garnered extensive referrals across the UK, Europe, and internationally, and he is frequently invited to operate and deliver invited lectures in various European countries.
